It is the grand temple of the Shingon sect, Buzan-ha, located on Mt. Hase in Sakurai city.
The origin of this temple started in 7th century and is known as the birthplace of the Kansai pilgrimage to 33 sites sacred to Kannon, the Buddhist God of Mercy.
The main hall which is built on a precipitous cliff, has been registered as a national treasure.
Noborido is registered as an important cultural asset along with the Niomon gate and Honbo (main priest home) and it is both unique and impressive.
The five storey pagoda, built in 1954 was intended to blend in with its surroundings. This temple is also called ‘Temple of flowers’ as you can enjoy different kinds of beautiful flowers each month, especially in the Japanese Peony season (mid-April – early May).
