The Enryakuji temple

The Enryakuji temple

The Enryakuji temple is located in Hiei-zan (Mt.Hiei) lies on the border of Shiga Prefecture and Kyoto Prefecture. The mountain itself is represents Enryakuji temple, so there is no single temple called Enryakuji.

Enryakuji temple is a complex of 15 temple buildings/stapeses and the entire natural environment. Enryakuji is the headquarters of the Tendai sect of Japanese Buddhism with over 1200 years history.

18 min. by JR train to Hieizan-sakamoto station, 7 min. by bus to Sakamoto cable car station and 11 min. by cable car to Sakamoto cable Enryaku-ji station, then 8 min. on foot to the temple
