The castle is also called ‘Egret castle’ from its elegant appearance and was re-opened to public in March, 2015 after 5 years of maintenance work.
It was the first site registered as a World Heritage site in Japan along with the Horyu-ji Area in 1993 and is a stunning example of early 17th-century Japanese castle architecture.
