Yoshinogari

Yoshinogari

Yoshinogari is located in the Kanzaki district, in the north of Saga.

Yoshinogari is an easy location to visit from Fukuoka or Nagasaki and if you are driving around Kyushu it can be an easy place to stop off at between these two prefectures to stretch your legs and learn something about a period of Japanese history that is not so well known about. It also contains a large recreational area for people to play sports and have picnics, and so makes for a nice day out, particularly if the weather is nice. Interesting and educational, with plenty of information available in English, this is a great place for a family (especially one wanting to tire some children out for a long drive!)

Yoshinogari Historical Park

Yoshinogari Historical Park

The Yoshinogari Ruins were discovered in 1989 and they are the largest ruins dating back from the Yayoi period (300 BC-300 AD), part of Japan’s Iron Age. Yoshinogari Historical Park provides the public with an opportunity to understand Yayoi culture, and it is committed to furthering people’s knowledge and understanding of the Yayoi period in Japan. Much of the area has been painstakingly reconstructed, and the large site is perfect for a morning or afternoon wander, where many of the buildings can be entered and watchtowers climbed to give impressive views over the rest of the park.
