Osorezan

Osorezan

Osorezan (Mt. Osore) is considered to be one of Japan’s three most sacred mountains along with Mt Koya and Mt Hiei. During Osorezan Grand Festival (mid-July), Itako (blind female shamans) will gather here for ‘Kuchiyose’ (it is believed that Itako possesses the spirit of the dead and people can communicate with the dead by means of Itako’s body) and for that reason a large number of visitors queue to attend this performance.

Lake Towada

Lake Towada
Lake Towada is a part of Towadako Hachimantai National Park, and is situated on the border between Aomori prefecture and Akita prefecture. It is a caldera lake formed by volcanic activity that began about 20 million years ago. The area is famous for its scenery and, in particular, for its autumn colours within the Tohoku region.
