Hakone is one of the most popular onsen (hot spring) towns and has a 1,200 year history. Hakone become a favorite holiday destination to escape the hustle and bustle of the nearby mega-city. Hakone is only one hour away from Tokyo and famous for its view of Mt Fuji as well as its beautiful scenery.
Hakone offers a variety of ryokans (a Japanese inn) from luxury ryokans to more affordable ones and all ryokans provide you with an authentic Japanese experience. Hakone Yumoto is the entrance to Hakone hot spring village and the oldest hot spring town in Hakone.
Lake Ashino-ko was originally a crater lake formed about 3,000 years ago. With the view of Mt Fuji in the background and the Torii gate of the Hakone Jinja shrine standing in the lake has become an iconic image of Hakone. The Hakone Sightseeing Cruise runs between the ports Moto Hakone, Hakone Machi and Togendaui.
Hakone open air museum is composed of an open air area displaying 120 sculptures, including the works of Henry Moore, Rodin and Milo representing modern contemporary fine arts in combination with the view of the surrounding Hakone Mountains. Also, they offer the excellent Picasso Pavilion with more than 300 paintings, glass art and tapestry.
