Yokohama has flourished as the harbour city as the entrance of Japan since end of the Edo period, and the western architecture of the Meiji Taisho period remains and can enjoy the contrast with modern architecture. The main tourist attractions are on the sea side of the JR Negishi Line, and you can take a walk from JR Sakuragicho Station (former Yokohama Station when Japan's first railway opened) to the bay area, and continue to the Osanbashi International Passenger Terminal, Yamashita Park, Chinatown and Yamate area. Also, Noge Shopping District is recommended to visit to experience the local atmosphere and local food in the evening. The area is filled with Izakaya (Japanese style pub), bars and Karaoke etc. Only few minute walk from JR Sakuragicho station.
