Ah, summer! Lively, hot and mostly sunny days followed by warm tropical nights...if these appeal to you, then I can recommend visiting Japan in summer. The temperatures will range between 25 Celsius in cooler areas like Hokkaido and the Japan Alps and 35 Celsius elsewhere in Japan, no matter where you are located. Japan’s rainy season is in June, however there is a silver lining! During this time hydrangeas bloom in splendid variety all over the archipelago. Many gardens, temples, shrines and even mountain paths will boast fluffy bushes of purple, blue, white, pink and even red blossoms. In summer, there are so many fantastic festivals to enjoy throughout Japan including: Tanabata (Star Festival), Gion Festival, Biwako Hanabi Festival and many more! We definitely recommend fitting in a festival experience to your itinerary if you’re visiting Japan in summer. Japanese festivals excite all the senses with great food, music and an all-round thrilling atmosphere. Another great summer activity in Japan is visiting the beach! Japan boasts thousands of kilometres in coastline, both sandy and rugged. July and August are best known as the season of "Hanabi", when fireworks light up the sky all over Japan.
