IMPORTANT NOTICE: This tour visits scenic places that are very popular with Japanese tourists during fall (late Oct. - early Nov.) and spring (late Apr. - early May). On weekends and national holidays at these times, traffic can get extremely heavy and alterations to the itinerary are likely (see "Remarks"). As such, we highly recommend AVOIDING weekends and holidays during these seasons and joining on weekdays when typically fewer domestic tourists are visiting. Please note that traffic and other circumstances may cause changes to the itinerary on weekdays as well.
【 Itinerary 】
8:50am - 9:00am
Depart Hamamatsucho Bus Terminal to visit the following by bus (160min)
Nikko Toshogu Shrine (90 min)
Tour the UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its lavish decorations, ornate details, and five structures categorized as National Treasures of Japan, and an additional three categorized as Important Cultural Properties. This shrine houses the remains of Edo period's founder, Ieyasu Tokugawa.
Lunch
May or may not be included depending on the plan selected.
* If you chose ‘with Lunch’, a Japanese-style lunch will be provided.
Lake Chuzenji (10 min.)
Created by an eruption of Mt Nantai, this lake is a symbol of Nikko.
Kegon Falls (30 min)
Climb to an observatory deck located directly in front of one of Nikko's three famous waterfalls, and admire the impressive 97meters waterfall.
NOTE: The charge to take the Kegon Falls elevator is not included in the booking price. Admire the waterfall from the observation deck facing the falls free of charge.
16:30 - 17:00 Tobu Nikko Station
Stop at Tobu Nikko Station.
Tour ends for those who wish to end the tour here.
Hanyu Parking Area (20 min)
Hanyu Parking Area is a rest area along the highway which creates a close representation of an Edo Period town. See the beautiful structures and famous long-established shops dating back to the Edo Period, and enjoy shopping for souvenirs.
Depending on road conditions, the tour may stop at a different parking area (rest area) instead of Hanyu Parking Area. In this case, please note that the different rest area will not be a representation of an Edo Period town.
19:00 - 19:30 Shinjuku
This tour disbands upon arrival near Shinjuku Station West Exit. Please head to your next destination on your own from Shinjuku.
【 Remarks 】
* Heavy traffic due to Autumn leaves is expected every year in Nikko during middle of Octover – early November. Therefore, Kegon Falls and Lake Chuzenji will not be visited during this period.
In such case, the tour will visit either the Kirifuri Falls, Taiyu-in Mausoleum of Rinnoji Temple, or Futarasan Shrine or Tamozawa Imperial Villa instead.
* Regardless of seasons, the tour may take similar countermeasures as mentioned in the above due to traffic conditions or other reasons. Please note that the tour fee will not be refunded for itinerary alteration.
* Please note that due to major repair and restoration work, the sleeping cat carving, three monkeys carving and part or all of Yomeimon Gate will not be visible at Toshogu Shrine.
Sleeping Cat: June to December 2016
Three Monkeys: June 2016 to March 2017
* As the temperature drops in Nikko, please bring warm clothing such as coats if you visit between fall and spring.
* The tour will walk up and down steps and hilly path at Nikko Toshogu and the Kegon Falls. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes to attend the tour.
* As the tour uses a bus for the entire itinerary, it may be behind the schedule to arrive at each site due to traffic conditions.
* An earphone guide will be provided to each participant at Nikko Toshogu. However, this may not apply if there are less than 15 participants.
* A fee of JPY 10,000 may be incurred if an audio guide is lost or damaged.
* If the minimum number of participants is not met by 4 days before a scheduled date, the tour on the date may be cancelled.
