Zenkoji temple is one of Japan’s most important temples. Zenko-ji is believed to have been founded in the mid-7th century. An image of the Buddha is enshrined in Ikko-Sanzon-Amida-Nyorai’, it is shown to the public every seven years (six full years) but a replica is on display all year round. The next time the real image is scheduled to be shown, ‘Gokaicho’, is in 2021.
