Kanazawa is the capital of Ishikawa Prefecture and offers many interesting tourist attractions. Since Hokuriku Shinkansen opened in 2015, the journey from Tokyo has become much more convenient.
Historical and Cultural Heritage Reflecting the Kaga Hyakuman-Goku culture. The Kenrokuen Garden has 6 sublime attributes that embodies the perfect landscape garden. The 6 attributes are: a water course, panorama, antiquity, spaciousness and seclusion. It is one of the three greatest gardens in Japan along with Kairakuen and Korakuen, and also one of the most visited attractions in Kanazawa.
The 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa is an innovative contemporary art museum opened in 2004. The building was designed by the famous Japanese architectural unit “SANAA”. Some of the pictures on display include: ‘Blue Planet Sky’ by James Tarrell and ‘Swimming Pool’ by Leandro Erlich. Entry to the museum is free, but there is a fee should one want to take in an exhibition.
Higashi Chaya District is located in Kanazawa city, ‘Chaya’ literally means ‘tea house’ where traditional Geisha and Maiko entertain guests by dancing and playing traditional instruments from the Edo period.
The streets are lined with lattice-windowed two-story tea houses, cafes and souvenir shops: the atmosphere pretty much resembles how it was hundreds of years ago.
