Yuzawa is situated in the southernmost part of Niigata and is a popular resort town famous for its excellent ski & snowboard resorts as well as its onsen, Japanese hot springs. There are roughly 12 different resorts in Yuzawa and numerous lifts. Yuzawa is quite famous as being the setting of the Nobel Prize winning novel, ‘Snow Country'.
Yuzawa is easily the most convenient resort area to get to for most visitors to Japan, as it is only 80 minutes by train from central Tokyo and this route is of course covered by the Japan Rail Pass. Most other resorts do not have bullet train access! This actually makes it an easy place to visit for a day trip, as well as being a resort town.
