【 Itinerary 】
8:30 a.m.
Assemble at Sunrise Tours Desk inside Avanti (across from Kyoto Station Hachijo Exit) and visit the following sites by coach.
Nijo Castle (50 min.)
The Kyoto residence of the Tokugawa Shogun, the main keep of which was built in 1603, is noted for the contrast of its solemn exterior and gorgeous interiors.
Kinkakuji Temple (45 min.)
This temple is renowned for its beautiful Japanese garden and stunning Golden Pavilion.
Kyoto Imperial Palace (40 min)
It was used as the Emperor's residence until about 150 years ago.
NOTE: On Monday, New Year's holidays and whenever there is an Imperial Household event, Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed and this tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine instead of the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
[Except Mondays] Kyoto Imperial Palace (40 min)
See the Kyoto Imperial Palace, which was used as the Emperor's residence until about 150 years ago.
Kyoto Imperial Palace is closed to the public on the following days. During these times, Kitano Tenmangu Shrine will be visited instead:
(Mondays, Tuesday if Monday is a national holiday, May 14-17 for the Aoi Festival, New Year's holidays, and whenever there is an Imperial Household event).
[Mondays (and Tuesdays when Monday is a national holiday)] Kitano Tenmangu Shrine (40 min)
On Mondays (and Tuesdays if a national holiday falls on the preceding Monday), this tour will visit Kitano Tenmangu Shrine instead of the Kyoto Imperial Palace. It is famous for housing the God of scholarship. This shrine's main hall is a designated national treasure. The shrine is especially great to see during the plum blossom and autumn leaf seasons.
The tour will visit Nishi Hongan-ji Temple instead of Kitano Tenmangu Shrine on June 25, Sept. 25 and Dec. 25.
Lunch (50min)
Enjoy a Japanese/Western Buffet style lunch. After lunch, visit the following sites by coach in the afternoon.
Travel to Nara via the Nara Keinawa Expressway by coach (90 min)
Todaiji Temple/ Nara Deer Park (90 min)
See the towering Great Buddha housed in the world's largest wooden building. More than 1,000 tamed deer roam freely in this verdant, 1,250 acre park.
Kasuga Grand Shrine (40 min)
The most famous and beautiful Shinto shrine in Nara, it features some 3,000 antique stone and bronze lanterns.
Nara Nagomikan (20 min)
This facility offers a wide variety of local crafts, goods, and souvenirs.
6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
Drop-off service to major hotels in Kyoto provided.
【 Remarks 】
* When Imperial Palace is closed, the tour will visit Kitano-tenmangu Shrine instead. The same is true of the period before and after the public viewing of Kyoto Imperial Palace in April and October,
14 - 17May due to the Aoi Festival, and whenever there is an Imperial Household event.
* Nishi Honganji Temple will be visited on 25Sep and 25Dec instead of Kitano-tenmangu Shrine. Nijo Castle is closed every Tuesday in January, July, August, December and the year end.
During these dates, the tour will visit Ryoanji Temple instead.
* At Kasuga Grand Shrine, the tour does not include entry to areas requiring additional admission fees.
* The tour may not visit Nara Nagomikan if it is closed or due to traffic conditions or other operational concerns.
* During the Gion Festival (14 - 16July), drop-off service to Karasuma Kyoto Hotel and Nikko Princess Kyoto is unavailable due to traffic restrictions.
* Connections to Kyoto Night Tour or Kyoto Maiko Dinner are not possible due to time constraints.
