Arita is a small and quiet typical Japanese town which, once a year between 29th April and 5th May (the Golden week), attracts nearly a million visitors who come to take part in the annual Arita Ceramic Fair featuring world famous high quality Arita ceramics – so, get ready for a bargain hunt!
In the 17th and 18th century Arita porcelain was exported to Europe where it gained popularity. The porcelain was shipped from the nearby port town of Imari and became widely known as Imari Ware.
2016 was Arita's 400th Arita Ceramics Anniversary.
This is a good place to visit if you want to find out more about Arita ceramic ware- its history, patterns, and its connection with Europe. The museum houses a precious collection of old Imari porcelain.
