Fuji Goko is a collective term for the five lakes around the northern foot of Mt. Fuji. The lakes are Lake Yamanaka, Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Sai, Lake Shoji and Lake Motosu.
It is one of the best places to view Mt Fuji and serves as a good place to start climbing the mountain.
But even if you don't intend climbing Mt Fuji, it's still worth visiting only to enjoy both the visual and natural wonders.
Lake Kawaguchi is a popular destination for an overnight stay and there are some good ryokan (Japanese inns) that offer fantastic views of Mt Fuji. Whilst taking in the magnificent views of the mountain, why not dip in an open air bath that the inns provide?
Access to Lake Kawaguchi (Fuji-Kawaguchi Ko machi) :
From Shinjuku: 135 min. by limited express & Fujikyu train or 105 min. by bus
